The Iranian officials who were killed in a rocket attack on Damascus on Sunday were meeting to discuss further progress in a program to develop drones or missiles to Tehran’s allies in Syria.
According to the foreign news agency, the sources of the Syrian government said that on Sunday, a meeting of technical experts of Syria and Iran was going on, where the discussion on the production of drones was going on.
The rocket attack hit the very center where the meeting was underway, while a rocket also fell on a residential building flat, killing a Syrian engineer and an Iranian official.
Syria blamed Israel for the attack, Syrian state media said that Israel carried out airstrikes in several areas of Damascus on Sunday midnight, killing 5 people and injuring 15 civilians.
Sources who spoke to Syrian security officials said the meeting took place in the underground security compound of the residential building.
Sources said the dead Syrian engineer was an army engineer who worked at the Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Center, which Western countries say produces missiles and chemical weapons.
A regional security source said that the seriously injured IRGC engineer was transferred to a hospital in Tehran.
