New Zealand’s Security Intelligence Service says there are ongoing attempts by a few countries to interfere in our democracy, economy and civil society.
The intelligence service in its annual report has identified increasing aggressive activities by some individuals.
The report stated that these persons were gathering intelligence and belonged to some foreign states.
According to the report, which covers up to June 2022, these individuals pose a threat to New Zealand’s national security.
The intelligence service said that foreign nationals living in the country were using local citizens to gather intelligence, and investigations revealed that they were gathering intelligence against the government.
The intelligence agency said these individuals had access to sensitive information of New Zealand citizens and were interfering in the country’s politics, private sector and civil society.
