A letter signed by more than 1,000 people, including Elon Musk, issued by the Future of Life Institute, says that no new cutting-edge AI technology should be introduced until the AI technology is fully developed. Such designs should not be prepared which will keep our society safe and these designs should also be audited by experts.
The letter states that powerful AI systems should only be developed when we are confident that their effects will be positive and the risks they pose can be controlled.
The letter also details the potential threats to society and civilization posed by human-competitive AI systems in the form of economic and political constraints, and calls for cooperation with the authorities that create and regulate them.
