Former Indian cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Harbhajan Singh have strongly criticized the holding of the Asia Cup in Colombo.
Talking to a Bharatiya TV channel, Sunil Gavaskar said that it is very important to know the truth as to why the matches were not shifted to Hambantota.
He said that apparently the impression was given that the players did not want to go to Hambantota, now they can only hope that the matches are not affected by rain.
He further said that it is necessary to find out why the matches were held in Colombo despite the bad weather. The comfort of the players is important but it is also important that the players play cricket.
The Indian cricketer also said that in the Asia Cup everyone can see their combination before the World Cup, the players also have to understand that if there is no place with more facilities for a couple of days, it will not make any difference.
Sunil Gavaskar said that the players prepare for the match for a whole month, what happened if they had to train for two days with less resources?
Speaking on the occasion, Harbhajan Singh said that in our time players did not have an opinion on the venue, we used to play wherever there was a match.
He said that what will be the venue should not be the problem of the players, it is the job of the officials to see where the matches can be played.
Harbhajan Singh said that it seems that in Colombo now there will be only swimming competition between teams, Dambulla is a full international stadium, I don’t know why the matches are not being held there.
The former Indian cricketer said, “If it was me, I would have played cricket elsewhere instead of waiting for the sun to rise in Colombo. The excuse of lack of training facilities for the match is illogical.”
