Lahore: The High Court overturned the sentence of Hanif Abbasi in the Efi Drain Quota case and ordered the acquittal of the League leader.
A bench consisting of Justice Miss Alia Neelam and Justice Asjad Javed Gharal pronounced the decision.
On July 21, 2018, the trial court sentenced Hanif Abbasi to 25 years in prison and a fine of Rs 10 lakh in the Effi drain quota case.
On April 11, 2019, a two-member bench of the Lahore High Court suspended the sentence of Hanif Abbasi and released him, while Hanif Abbasi had filed an appeal against the sentence in the Lahore High Court.

Hanif Abbasi said that when the case was registered in 2012, Mian Nawaz Sharif said at that time that this case is false, I also thank Shahbaz Sharif. Even when he was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment, he stood in the court while he was involved in this case for 11 years and served 11 months of imprisonment.
“I was kept out of two elections and my daughter was fired while my younger brother was kept in illegal detention for 14 days,” the League leader said. If Sheikh Rasheed comes to the election now, God willing, I will contest the election.
Hanif Abbasi said that Quaid Mian Muhammad will welcome Nawaz Sharif on October 21, I will welcome him by taking the biggest convoy from Rawalpindi.
The League leader said that Sheikh Rasheed’s whereabouts are not known, but he registered a false murder case against me, and I will definitely fight him in the election.
