Islamabad: The special court set up under the Official Secrets Act sought an explanation from the Superintendent of Attock Jail on the plea of contempt of court for not talking to the PTI chairman’s sons over the phone.
Official Secret Act Special Court Islamabad Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain heard the request of Chairman PTI. Chairman PTI’s lawyer Shiraz Ahmad Ranjha and prosecutor Raja Naveed appeared before the court.
Chairman PTI’s lawyer argued that the prison manual has been misinterpreted by the Superintendent of Attock Jail, there is no restriction on talking in the Official Secrets Act. According to the Punjab Jail rules, a convicted criminal cannot be interviewed and PTI chairman is not a convicted person but is under trial. If there is no legal restriction, then why is it not being discussed?
Chairman PTI’s lawyer once again requested for a meeting with the court, then the court adjourned the hearing till September 28, seeking an explanation from the Attock Jail Superintendent.
The Superintendent of Attock Jail has submitted a report on the application, according to which the jail rules do not allow the interview of a person sitting abroad, so the chairman PTI cannot be interviewed by his sons.
