The draws for the Asian Games squash events in China this month have been announced. Pakistan have been drawn in groups with India in the men’s, women’s and mixed team events.
The Asian Games squash competition will be held from September 26 to October 5 in which 8 players from Pakistan will participate.
In men’s singles, Asim Khan will face Singapore’s Lian Arun Widjaja in the first round, while Nasir Iqbal will face Thailand’s Nathapat Thraslap in the first round of men’s singles.
In women’s singles, Pakistan’s Noorul Ain Ijaz will play Mongolia’s player in the first round. Noorul Huda Sadiq has received a bye in the first round.
In the women’s team event, Pakistan and India are in Pool B together. In Pool B, the Pakistan Women’s team will also compete against Malaysia, Macau and Nepal, while in the Men’s team, Pakistan, India, Kuwait, Qatar, Singapore and Nepal are in Pool A.
Two Pakistani teams will participate in Asian Games Squash Mixed Doubles. The team of Sadia Gul and Farhan Zaman is in Pool D while Noor Zaman and Mehwish Ali are in Pool A.
Squash has been included in the Asian Games since 1998 and Pakistan has won 2 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals so far. During the competitions held in 2018, Pakistan won the bronze medal in the men’s team event.
Pakistan’s last gold at the Asian Games was in 2010 in the men’s team.
