Rawalpindi;  A shipment of dead chickens was seized for supply to hotels

Rawalpindi: Shipments of thousands of dead chickens were seized for supply to hotels and restaurants.

During an operation, Punjab Food Authority caught the supplier red-handed while exporting a large consignment of dead chickens from Rawalpindi.

According to officials, on a tip-off, 2100 kg dead chickens were recovered from Murgi Mandi Bagh Sardaran. The chickens recovered from the vehicle were being transported to a nearby warehouse. The dead chickens culled were found to be suffering from various infectious diseases while no records were provided on the spot of the culled chickens.

The supplier was fined Rs 40,000 for violating the rules and regulations. The accused had to sell the dead chickens to various hotels and restaurants. The authorities have issued instructions that citizens should prefer fresh meat instead of buying pre-slaughtered chicken meat.
