Lahore: The court reserved its decision on the request of Chairman PTI Imran Khan to stop the proceedings in 121 cases.
A 5-member larger bench of Lahore High Court headed by Justice Ali Baqer Najafi heard the case. The court directed Imran Khan’s lawyer to complete his arguments today while the public prosecutor told the court that details of all the cases against Imran Khan have been provided.
The government lawyer said in his arguments that Imran Khan has filed a request in the Supreme Court to form a judicial commission on the events of May 9 and stop the proceedings. After this application, how can a similar application be processed in the High Court, on which Justice Ali Baqir Najafi said that various points have been raised in the application we have.
Justice Ali Baqir Najafi while talking to Imran Khan’s lawyer said that he had filed an application on May 16. In this application, you requested that the details of the cases registered after May 9 should be provided. You have sought similar relief from the Supreme Court, so shouldn’t you withdraw this request?
Imran Khan’s lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar said that there is no judicial decision regarding political revenge in Pakistan after 1974. The example of what is happening today is not found in the past. In the current situation, a comprehensive court order regarding political revenge is the need of the hour. We hope that this 5-member larger bench will give a comprehensive decision on this political revenge.
Barrister Salman Safdar said in his arguments that Imran Khan is 71 years old and criminal cases have been filed against him. There are very few examples of crime cases in this age. Justice Anwar-ul-Haq Pannu remarked that your client is extraordinary, to which the lawyer replied that yes, he is very fit and we find it scornful.
The court asked the public prosecutor that they say that one case after another was filed with malice, to which the public prosecutor replied that Imran Khan was in the Islamabad High Court in the Al-Qadir Trust case. They arrest the accused from within.
The court said you should talk about Punjab and not Islamabad High Court. To which the government lawyer replied that the amount of relief Imran Khan is getting from the courts has never happened in history. Justice Ali Baqir Najafi said that you should not have said this before this court. Here every accused gets security guarantees from morning till evening.
