The shortage of flour in Karachi intensified

The Sindh High Court issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Food Department.

The shortage of wheat and flour became acute in Karachi.

The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Food Department on the request of the Flour Mills Association against stopping the supply of wheat.

A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Sindh High Court, Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh, heard the petition against stopping the supply of wheat by Flour Mills Association.

The petitioner’s counsel was of the opinion that flour mills in Karachi are facing strict restrictions from the government of Sindh. Wheat is not being supplied according to demand at the district and provincial levels. More than 90 flour mills are abandoned in Karachi. Wheat is currently being sold at the highest price in Karachi due to non-availability of demand. The Sindh government should be ordered to ensure uninterrupted supply of wheat.

The court issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Food Department for May 31 and sought their response.
