Karachi: Due to depletion of wheat reserves in the flour mills of the city, fear of flour crisis has arisen in Karachi again.
Chairman of Flour Mills Association Chaudhry Aamir Abdullah told Express that most of the flour mills in Karachi have only two days of wheat stock left as the Sindh government has reneged on the written agreement with the Flour Mills Association.
He said that an agreement was reached with the Food Department of Sindh that after May 15, the ban on bringing wheat from inside Sindh to Karachi will be lifted, but unfortunately, the ban on bringing wheat to Karachi has not been lifted yet, due to which Karachi Basi is forced to buy the most expensive flour in the country.
Chaudhry Amir Abdallah said that several flour mills in Karachi are lying dry and due to the non-availability of wheat, the flour mills will be closed in a day or two. The daily requirement of wheat in the city of Karachi with a population of 3 crores is 10 thousand tons. The price of a 100 kg bag of wheat has reached the level of 12300 rupees.
He said that there is a fear of increase in the price of flour due to shortage of wheat and increasing price.
