The health minister of the Indian state of Orissa was shot dead by a police officer on security duty.
60-year-old Health Minister Naba Das had arrived in Brijrajnagar city to attend a function.
While alighting from the official vehicle, a citizen garlanded him with flowers, while the policeman opened fire.
The health minister was rushed to a private hospital in the state capital Bhubaneswar by helicopter but succumbed to his injuries.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnik also reached the hospital while Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief and condoled with the family of the Health Minister.
Police have detained the attacker, ASI Gopal Das, who was posted for security during the Health Minister’s visit.
