Diplomatic Doors to Iran Remain Open, Talks Ongoing: White House

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt

Washington (PNP): The White House says the United States is continuing talks with Iran despite renewed tensions, and President Donald Trump remains open to diplomacy with Tehran.

Speaking to reporters, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Trump would hold Iran accountable if it backs away from commitments made to the United States, but emphasized that he is always willing to pursue diplomacy.

She said Iran has informed President Trump that it is still interested in reaching an agreement, and the United States remains engaged in discussions with Tehran. Leavitt stressed that President Trump has not closed the door on diplomacy. She also warned that the president would not allow attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, adding that Iran would have to pay the price for any such actions.

Trump has also warned that if Iran does not return to negotiations, the United States could expand the scope of its strikes to include power plants and bridges.

Leavitt further said an investigation is underway into an attack on a school in Iran, insisting that the U.S. military never deliberately targets children or civilians.

She also accused Iran of violating the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz, saying the recent U.S. strikes were carried out in response. She reiterated that Iran cannot be allowed to possess nuclear weapons under any circumstances and must face consequences for its actions.
