According to the official Saudi news agency, Saudi Arabia has approved a memorandum of understanding that will make the state a negotiating partner in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
It should be noted that the SCO is a political and security organization that includes the countries of Europe and Asia.
This organization was established in 2001 by Russia, China and former Soviet states, India and Pakistan are also part of it.
Last year, Iran also signed the SCO full membership documents.
Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Saudi Arabia last December, during which the Arab state’s accession to the SCO was discussed.
Saudi Arabia’s status as a negotiating partner in the SCO is the first step towards full membership.
