Egypt is issuing multi-year visas for the first time, with a few more countries added to facilitate visa-on-arrival.
A 5-year multiple-entry visa can be obtained for $700, while citizens of more than 180 countries can get a 30-day single-entry visa on arrival for $25.
Tourism Minister Ahmad Isa said that China and India have been included in the visa-on-arrival list.
These measures are being taken to promote tourism, which is an important source of foreign exchange and employment in Egypt’s economy.
Last year 1.17 million tourists visited Egypt, the government wants to increase this number by 25-30% annually to 30 million by 2028.
The tourism minister said that the arrival of tourists in January and February this year has increased by 30 percent compared to last year.
He said that China’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Hu Heping will visit Cairo from April 1 to 4.
The Egyptian minister said that he will discuss with the Chinese minister to promote tourism.
He added that 220 thousand Chinese tourists visited Egypt in 2019.
