Islamabad: In a meeting held to reduce government expenditure, the Prime Minister was asked to eliminate government posts that have been vacant for a year.
According to Express News, an important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding reducing the size of government expenditure and government structure, in which the committee formed regarding reducing government expenditure submitted a preliminary report to the Prime Minister.
In the meeting, the committee recommended closure of some government institutions, merger of several institutions and transfer of some institutions to provinces. The committee further asked that all such posts which are vacant for more than one year should be eliminated to save national money, introduce a contributory pension system for newly recruited government employees and provide services in government institutions. Private sector services should be taken for this.
In the report submitted to the Prime Minister, it has been asked to ban unnecessary travel of government officials and promote teleconferencing to reduce government expenditure. Official vehicles should be immediately withdrawn from such government officials who are availing the facility of mono-tying.
The Prime Minister said in the meeting that the committee should give concrete suggestions by using the best experiences of the international level. It is hoped that billions of rupees will be saved in the light of the recommendations of the high-powered committee.
