Lahore: After Karachi, Edhi Foundation started biometric method in Lahore to identify the dead bodies.
Hundreds of abandoned bodies are buried in the graveyard built near Miani Sahib and Sigian in Lahore. Those who have not been identified till date, however, Edhi Foundation has started the series of biometrics in Lahore after Karachi to identify the abandoned bodies and search for their heirs.
Faisal Jalal, in-charge of Edhi Foundation Lahore, told Express News that since January 1, biometrics of 20 bodies have been done, due to which the heirs of four bodies have been searched, the search for the heirs of 11 is going on, while the biometrics of the rest of the bodies has been done. Could not be verified.
It should be noted that when the police found an abandoned body, the prints of both his hands were obtained on paper and sent to the forensic department, but in this process it was almost impossible to identify the heirs.
Faisal Jalal says that after the biometric data is shared with NADRA which gives the record of Murniwale’s family.
He said that it has been suggested to the IG Punjab Police that biometrics of all the dead bodies in the official mortuaries of the province should be done, it is hoped that there will be progress in this regard.
