A law to abolish the death penalty and limit life imprisonment to 30 to 40 years was passed in Malaysia. Executions have been banned in Malaysia since 2018.

The Malaysian Parliament has approved reforms to abolish the mandatory death penalty and reduce the term of imprisonment from life imprisonment to normal life.

After this law, the death penalty can be commuted to life imprisonment, while life imprisonment can be limited to 30 to 40 years.
