ISLAMABAD (PNP): Pakistan marked the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq with nationwide ceremonies, official tributes, and powerful statements from political and military leadership highlighting unity, sacrifice, and national determination. The anniversary has emerged as an important symbol of Pakistan’s resolve to defend its sovereignty while promoting peace and regional stability.
The observance of Marka-e-Haq commemorates the events surrounding Operation Bunyanum Marsoos and Pakistan’s military response to Indian aggression in May 2025. Over the past year, the phrase Marka-e-Haq has become deeply associated with national unity, institutional strength, and the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces and civilians.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif had officially announced that May 10 would be observed every year as Youm-e-Marka-e-Haq. According to the Prime Minister, the day symbolizes Pakistan’s successful defence of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He praised the professionalism of the armed forces and said the nation stood united during a critical moment in the country’s history.
The Prime Minister also announced compensation and welfare initiatives for the families of martyrs and injured civilians. These measures included financial support, reconstruction of damaged homes and mosques, and free education for the children of martyrs. His message reflected the government’s effort to present Marka-e-Haq not only as a military achievement but also as a national moment of collective sacrifice and resilience.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar described Marka-e-Haq as a defining chapter in Pakistan’s contemporary history. In his official message, Dar said the anniversary was not merely a remembrance of conflict but a celebration of courage, discipline, and unwavering national unity.
He emphasized that Pakistan exercised restraint and acted responsibly despite provocation. According to Ishaq Dar, the country’s response was measured, lawful, and based on principles of self-defence under international law. He praised the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for guiding the nation during challenging circumstances.
Dar also stated that Operation Bunyanum Marsoos demonstrated Pakistan’s operational preparedness and strategic clarity. He stressed that the spirit of Marka-e-Haq should inspire Pakistan to strengthen its economy, institutions, education system, and diplomatic standing in the world.
Pakistan’s military leadership also issued strong statements on the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the armed forces remain fully prepared to defend the country against any future aggression with even greater determination and precision.
The ISPR paid tribute to martyrs, veterans, and civilians who stood beside the armed forces during the conflict. The military’s statement emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to peace but possesses the capability and resolve to respond decisively to any threat against national sovereignty.
The Pakistan Air Force received particular praise during the anniversary events. Officials highlighted the operational performance of the PAF during the confrontation and described it as evidence of technological advancement, professional excellence, and strategic preparedness.
Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu stated that the Pakistan Air Force successfully defended national airspace and demonstrated exceptional capability in modern aerial warfare, cyber defence, and electronic warfare systems. He credited the success to the dedication of personnel and the support of the Pakistani people.
Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Aurangzeb Khan Khichi also addressed a commemorative ceremony organized at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts. He called Marka-e-Haq a defining chapter in Pakistan’s national journey and praised the courage of the armed forces.
Khichi said Pakistan’s response to aggression reflected national unity and collective confidence. He emphasized that there could be no compromise on Pakistan’s sovereignty, dignity, and security. The minister further stated that the events of May 2025 demonstrated the strength of Pakistan’s institutions and the patriotism of its citizens.
He also paid tribute to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their leadership during the crisis. According to Khichi, the armed forces not only defended the country militarily but also reinforced the confidence of the Pakistani nation.
Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani linked Marka-e-Haq with Pakistan’s broader commitment to peace and diplomacy. Speaking at a national conference, he said Pakistan’s response reflected maturity, responsibility, and adherence to international law.
Gilani praised President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and military leadership for presenting a united national front during the crisis. He said Pakistan successfully defended its sovereignty while continuing to advocate dialogue and peace in the region.
Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also addressed ceremonies related to the anniversary of Marka-e-Haq. He stated that Pakistan had emerged stronger and more united after the confrontation. Bilawal emphasized that the country would never compromise on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
According to Bilawal Bhutto, Pakistan’s success was not only military but also diplomatic. He praised Pakistani diplomats for effectively presenting the national position before the international community and countering hostile narratives.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah highlighted the preparedness of Pakistan’s defence institutions and said Pakistan had responded swiftly and effectively during the conflict. He rejected hostile propaganda against Pakistan and praised the alertness of the Pakistan Navy and other defence institutions.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon described Marka-e-Haq as a historic moment of national pride. He said the anniversary represented the courage and professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces as well as the unity of the Pakistani people.
Memon criticized Indian media narratives during the conflict and stated that Pakistan’s response exposed misinformation and propaganda. He added that the anniversary should serve as a reminder of the importance of unity, patriotism, and confidence in national institutions.
Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi, while addressing an event in Dallas, USA, paid tribute to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy, and Pakistan Air Force. He praised overseas Pakistanis for supporting the national economy and promoting Pakistan’s positive image internationally.
Hashmi stated that Pakistan’s future progress depended on unity, hard work, and collective national thinking. He said the success associated with Marka-e-Haq reflected the determination and resilience of the Pakistani nation.
Dr. Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, Patron-in-chief of Pakistan Hindu Council, in his video message, appreciated Pakistani armed forces for safeguarding national borders and sovereignty. “Today, as the first anniversary of this magnificent victory is being celebrated, as a patriotic Pakistani I see it not merely as a military triumph, but as a victory of national dignity and truth,” he stated. According to him, the Day of Marka-e-Haq is in fact an acknowledgment of the reality that Pakistan is not just a geographical territory but our motherland. “Pakistan belongs to all of us, and we all belong to Pakistan.”
Dr. Ramesh Kumar also highlighted that: “Marka-e-Haq has also proven true the political foresight of Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who laid the foundation of Pakistan’s nuclear program to make the country’s defence invincible. Later, his great daughter, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, initiated the missile program during her tenure in government.”
A large gathering of overseas Pakistanis also organized an impressive event in the Texas, USA titled MARKA-E-HAQ PAKISTAN – Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, Battle of Truth Victory Day to mark the first anniversary of Pakistan’s victory against India in the May 5, 2025 war. Mo guests were Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi and Overseas Pakistani Foundation Chairman Syed Qamar Raza. Vice Consul General from Houston Usher Shahzad, along with community leaders, journalists and members of the business community, also attended.
Political observers believe the first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq carries significant symbolic importance. It reflects the state’s effort to strengthen public confidence, reinforce institutional unity, and project a message of stability both domestically and internationally.
The anniversary also comes at a time when Pakistan faces economic challenges, regional tensions, and evolving geopolitical realities. In this context, the repeated emphasis on unity, resilience, and preparedness demonstrates the government’s intention to frame Marka-e-Haq as a symbol of national confidence and collective strength.
For many Pakistanis, the anniversary is also an emotional remembrance of sacrifice and patriotism. Television broadcasts, public ceremonies, and official statements throughout the country highlighted the contributions of soldiers, pilots, officers, and civilians who played a role during the conflict.
The first anniversary of Marka-e-Haq ultimately reinforced one central national message: Pakistan desires peace, but peace must be based on dignity, sovereignty, and mutual respect. Through coordinated statements from political leadership, military institutions, and provincial governments, Pakistan projected an image of unity and determination.
As the country commemorates one year of Marka-e-Haq, the occasion continues to evolve into a national symbol of resilience, patriotism, and unwavering commitment to protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty and future generations.
