London: A new study has found that parents are concerned about their children’s increased screen time and the potential harm it can cause to their children’s health. However, according to the research, there has been an improvement in the overall digital protection of children.
The annual study, conducted by online safety charity Internet Matters, surveyed 1,000 households about their digital habits.
The latest report found that the increase in time spent on children’s devices and the decrease in traditional family time are raising concerns for parents. 63% of parents surveyed said that time spent online has a negative impact on their children.
About 50 percent of parents said they were worried about their children’s sleep being affected by screen time.
However, the research found that overall children’s digital safety had improved and a large number of young people reported benefits from being online.
But the research also highlighted some worrisome online activities. Half of the 15- and 16-year-old girls surveyed said they had been approached by strangers, while two-thirds (67 percent) said they had had a negative experience online. .
