Islamabad: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam demanded the Election Commission to amend the election schedule.

JUI Senator Kamran Murtaza has written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner requesting the Election Commission to extend the date for receipt of nomination papers.

In the letter, he said that on the order of the Supreme Court, the schedule of general elections was released by the Election Commission, but the Election Commission has kept 3 days time for submission of nomination papers in the schedule.

Senator Kamran Murtaza demanded that the political parties should distribute party tickets to the candidates at the national and provincial levels for the elections, so three days should be added for receiving the nomination papers.

In the letter, the JUI senator said that the time for scrutiny of nomination papers can be reduced from 7 days to four days and by reducing the scrutiny time it will be possible to hold polling on February 8.

He said that JUIF has no objection to the date of elections and other stages of the election schedule, however, under Section 58 of the Election Act, the Election Commission can change the schedule.

Senator Kamran Murtaza said that increasing the time for filing nomination papers will be satisfactory for JUIF as a political party.
