Denmark lifts arms embargo on Saudi Arabia, Turkey and UAE

Denmark’s caretaker government has lifted an arms embargo on Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.

After the embargo was lifted, Denmark implemented a policy of ‘presumption of denial’, according to which arms exports to the three countries would be allowed only after it was irrefutably proven that the weapons would not be used in the conflicts in northern Syria and Yemen.

In a letter to parliament last week, the government said it wanted to join the Franco-German-Spanish pact.

In order to join the deal, it will have to lift the embargo on arms supplies to Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the UAE.

The Franco-German-Spanish Treaty is an agreement regulating arms exports that is consistent with EU and United Nations arms export laws.
