While sharing the details of the survey, Executive Member of Pakistan Nutrition and Dietetic Society Saima Rashid told reporters during a press conference at the National Press Club Islamabad that according to their survey, 73 percent of people in Pakistan consider themselves to be obese, but When the body mass index of these individuals was checked, the rate of obesity was much higher than according to the Asia-Pacific classification.

He said that 100 percent of the citizens of Sukkur in Sindh and Mirpur in Azad Kashmir were found to be obese.

He further said that 95 percent of people in Islamabad are obese, while 95 percent of all cities in Punjab are obese, in Karachi about 84 percent and in Quetta 73 percent are obese.

He said that 72 percent of the people of Khanpur city in central Punjab are suffering from obesity, which is the lowest rate of obesity in the entire country.

Addressing the press conference, the country’s well-known gynecologist Professor Ghazala Mehmood said that according to his survey, 28 percent of obese people were suffering from blood pressure and 21 percent from diabetes.

He said that lack of physical exercise and unhealthy diet are two major causes of obesity in men and women.

On this occasion, the two experts demanded the government of Pakistan to make a national action plan for the prevention of obesity in the country and to immediately take steps to correct dietary habits and promote physical sports and exercise so that the country will be overweight before time.
