The federal government has decided to increase the basic tariff of electricity up to 4 rupees 96 paise per unit.
According to sources, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is likely to make an official announcement of the increase in electricity prices today.
Sources have said that at present the basic electricity tariff for the entire country is 24 rupees 82 paise.
The basic electricity tariff was increased by Rs 7.91 paisa last financial year.
Last fiscal year, the basic electricity tariff was increased from Rs 16 91 paise to Rs 24 82 paise.
The basic tariff hike was done in 3 phases last financial year.
Including the basic tariff, a unit of electricity in the country currently costs an average of Rs.45.
After the increase in basic tariff, the average per unit of electricity may exceed Rs.50.
