The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed a two-year ban on international spinner Asif Afridi.

According to a statement issued in this regard, Asif Afridi has been banned from playing all forms of cricket for two years after pleading guilty to two violations under the PCB’s Anti-Corruption Code for Participants.

Afridi was given a two-year disqualification for breaching Article 2.4.10, while he was banned for six months for breaching Article 2.4.4.

Both periods of ineligibility will run concurrently and will begin on the day of their temporary suspension, which began on September 12, 2022.

In reaching its decision on the ban period, the PCB considered the guilty plea, expression of remorse, past track record and Asif Afridi’s request that the PCB consider his case sympathetically, claiming That he violated the code unintentionally.

PCB Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi says that ‘PCB does not take pleasure in suspending an international cricketer for two years, but we have a zero tolerance attitude against such offences. As the governing body of the game we need to set examples, handle such cases firmly and send strong messages to all cricketers.’

The statement said that it is a harsh reality that corruption is a threat to our game as selfish corrupt people lure cricketers in various ways.

It should be noted that Asif Afridi is a left-arm spinner of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while he has represented Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
