Saudi Arabia’s King Salman today officially invited Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to the meeting of the Arab League Council in Jeddah.
The meeting will be held on May 19. The Saudi Ambassador to Jordan, Nayef bin Bandar Al-Sudairi, delivered the invitation letter from King Salman to the President of Syria.
Earlier, Saudi Arabia announced that it was reestablishing diplomatic relations with Syria.
Bashar al-Assad said that the meeting will provide an opportunity to expand joint Arab initiatives to fulfill the aspirations of the Arab people.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that the steps to reestablish ties show Saudi Arabia’s commitment to joint Arab initiatives in Syria that will expand security and stability in the region.
