The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has said that it reiterates its defense of the freedom of expression of journalists and media persons. Without freedom of press, freedom of thought, conscience and religion cannot flourish.
On the World Press Freedom Day, HRCP said in a message from Lahore that without freedom of the press, the right to freedom from torture and slavery will also be lost.
HRCP further said that without freedom of press, people cannot hold elected representatives, state institutions accountable.
HRCP said that the state should create such an atmosphere that media persons can work without fear and dignity. Right to reasonable and timely compensation is also a part of freedom of press.
