Sale of artificial milk allowed in Israel

Tel Aviv: The Israeli government has approved the sale of artificial milk produced in a laboratory without cows.

The Israel Innovation Authority (IIA) announced in a statement on Thursday that local food startup Remilk has been granted a license to market everyday foods with proteins similar to real milk proteins.

Protein is combined with vitamins, minerals and animal fats to make dairy products, including cheese, yogurt and ice cream, according to Remilk. This production process gets rid of unwanted ingredients like cholesterol and lactose, as well as free of growth hormones and antibiotics used in animal husbandry.

IIA has said in its statement that this is a historic day for Israel and the whole world regarding food technology, the approval by the government is the first and important milestone for the entire Israeli food technology market.
