Jordanian Air Force Lieutenant Saba Al-Zinibat became the first female officer to fly an F-16 fighter jet.
According to the official news agency, they took off from the Moafaq Al-Salti Air Base in Oman.
This was the first flight of a fighter jet by any female Air Force officer.
Brigadier General Muhammad Hayast, the head of the Jordanian Air Force, said that this success is a manifestation of King Abdullah’s support for the role of women, especially the role of female military officers.
There are 10,000 personnel and officers in the Jordanian Air Force, in which the number of women is less.
One of King Abdullah’s daughters, Princess Salma, is a military pilot. The King’s sister, Princess Ayesha, was also in the military, and in 1995 she formed a directorate for women military officers.
Jordan’s armed forces number 140,000, of which 17 percent are women, but most women are working as medical staff in military hospitals.
The air force has 44 F-16 aircraft, recently Jordan signed an agreement to buy 16 new and modern F-16 aircraft from the United States.
