Punjab's new local government system law suspended

Rawalpindi: The new Local Government System Act of Punjab was suspended.

With the approval of Governor Punjab, Local Government Secretary Ahmed Raza Sarwar issued a gazette notification. According to the notification, the new Local Government System Act will remain suspended until the election of new local government representatives.

After the suspension of the New Local Government Act, Rawalpindi’s metropolitan status was abolished and it reverted to a municipal corporation. After the said move, 11 Metropolitan Corporation and 40 District Councils were also abolished.

In 2013, the local government system of the Muslim League-N period was restored, and a total of 252 local government bodies became in Punjab.
