Peshawar: The Peshawar High Court sought a clear answer from the Election Commission regarding the Senate election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and ordered to give the date of the election on the next hearing.
A hearing was held on the petition filed by PTI leader Azam Swati in the Peshawar High Court against the postponement of the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The petitioner’s lawyer Ali Zaman Advocate said that the Senate election has not been held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa yet, we request that the Senate election be held soon.
Lawyer Election Commission Mohsin Kamran said that two cases are under hearing in the Supreme Court, one is about specific seats and the other is about swearing.
Justice Waqar Ahmed said that you will not conduct the Senate election by that time? This is affecting the rights of the people of the province. This province is not represented in the Senate. Please tell us when the elections are being held.
Vakil Election Commission said that we are ready to conduct elections, but the Supreme Court has suspended the decision of the High Court regarding taking oath of elected members on certain seats.
Election Commission lawyer Mohsin Kamran said that the DG Law has been discussed and there will be a meeting regarding the Senate election in which the Election Commission will take a decision regarding the Senate election.
The court asked the Election Commission to submit a clear report on the next hearing as to when the election will be held. Later, the court adjourned the hearing till June 6.
