Karachi: The Chief Minister of Sindh has sought 400 million dollars from the Asian Development Bank for the construction of two and a half lakh more houses for the flood victims.
A delegation of Asian Development Bank (ADB) led by Hong Su Lee met Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, and discussed the terms and conditions for the construction of 250,000 more houses for the flood-affected people and the terms and conditions for $400 million. It was agreed to talk.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Dr. Fakhar Alam, Secretary to Chief Minister Rahim Sheikh, Chairman P&D Board Shakeel Manganijo, Secretary Finance Kazim Jatoi, CEO SPHF Khalid Sheikh, while the head of Water Resources and Emergency Relief was present in the bank delegation. Mian Shaukat, Economist Jules Huguet, Project Analyst Rabia and others were involved.
The Chief Minister said that they are looking for funds to construct two and a half lakh houses for the flood affected people. He added that $400 million is required for the project and an additional $100 million for community infrastructure development.
Murad Ali Shah said that he wanted to build an efficient drainage system (with large pits and pond-like tanks), drinking water facility and drainage system. He said that we are also planning to provide solar units and washrooms to the flood affected houses.
CEOSPHF Khalid Shaikh said that out of 1 million houses, 100,000 houses have been constructed and work on others is in progress.
The Chief Minister said that the chairman of his party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has announced the construction of low-cost houses for the poor in his election manifesto.
He said that apart from the flood affected people, we are also looking for donors to build houses.
It was decided in the meeting that the paperwork for the $400 million project to build 250,000 houses would be completed so that they could be presented to the board meeting of the Asian Bank.
