London: The British newspaper Guardian has declared the Pakistani film ‘Joyland’ as ‘the best film of 2023’.
Ali Junejo and Aleena Khan play the lead roles in Saim Sadiq’s transgender-themed film.
The Guardian described ‘Joyland’ as a subtle trans drama that explores a widow’s sexual identity and social issues.
‘Joyland’ was sent to the Oscars by Pakistan and was shortlisted but could not win the Oscar.
It should be noted that the film faced a lot of problems regarding its release in Pakistan and was termed as a propaganda film by many quarters.
