An elderly tattoo artist from the Philippines has become the oldest woman to grace the cover of Vogue magazine.
A 106-year-old Filipino woman is known for keeping the art form known as ‘Batok’ alive.
Apo Wang Od, a tattoo artist from a mountain village, started tattooing at the age of 16.
According to Vogue magazine, the tattoo artist known as the last mamba toque of his generation inscribed the symbols of the Kalinga tribe, including strength, bravery and beauty, on the skin of thousands of people who visit Buskalan.
In this regard, B. Valdes, editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, says, “We felt that she represented our ideals of beauty in our Filipino culture.”
He added that ‘we believe that the concept of beauty needs to be developed, which includes a variety of composite faces and what we hope to communicate is the beauty of humanity’.
Earlier in 2020, 85-year-old Judi Dench became the oldest woman to grace the cover of British Vogue magazine.
