New Delhi: The royal expenditure of the officers in the Indian Army angered the soldiers.
According to the report, the salary of an Indian general is equal to the salary of 13 Indian soldiers. The salary of a newly commissioned lieutenant is 3 times more than that of a subedar major with 32 years of service. The salaries of Indian military officers are 29% higher than that of the civil bureaucracy.
Indian military officers have also enacted legislation to pay less income tax, while the situation of young men is not satisfactory. Officers are not allowed to travel for free, while young men are forced to travel at their own expense.
The report further states that Indian military officers also distribute free ration and money as ration allowance. Officers get 50 per cent GST discount on shopping deals while wives of army officers get 45 per cent discount on make-up purchases.
According to Indian law, 20th of the district land is reserved for retired soldiers, most of which is taken by military officers. One to 5% quota in colleges and universities is reserved for retired soldiers, but that too is usurped by Indian army officers. Gifts received by Indian military officers during service are also exempt from tax.
According to the report, CSD officers of the rank above colonel get free liquor without any limit while a quota of 4 bottles is reserved for jawans. Indian army officers take free liquor and sell it in the market.
The entry of junior officers and their spouses and young men is also prohibited in the functions of senior military officers.
In the past, Tej Bahadur, a Border Security Force (BSF) official, was dismissed for objecting to substandard food. In January 2019, Tej Bahadur’s 22-year-old son was found mysteriously dead.
Sepoy Sindhu Jogi had revealed in 2018 that Indian army officers spend the welfare fund of the jawans on their extravagances. Officer Roy Mathew had protested the exploitation of batmen by Indian army officers in 2017. Some time later, Roy Mathew’s body was found hanging from the fan in Dev Lally Kent’s room.
Sepoy Chandu Babu Lal crossed the border and came to Pakistan in 2016 after suffering ill-treatment by Indian army officers.
