Karachi: In the Sindh High Court regarding the mysterious deaths in Kemari area, the police in the investigation report prepared in the light of the Sepa report has revealed that on February 17, 2020, smoke was observed at KPT Terminals 15 and 16 (Eastern Wharf).
Hazardous imported raw materials were being unloaded at these terminals, hazardous chemicals were found in long-standing containers at the terminals, and air quality in the affected area was poor due to raw materials and soybeans.
The research report stated that due to the spread of dust in the form of fine particles of raw materials and soybeans, there are risks to the population. KPT has the primary responsibility to fully implement environmental laws, but KPT has not taken steps to improve the environment and air quality. Due to the criminal negligence of KPT, people working at the port and residents of nearby residential areas are being exposed to poisonous and dangerous gases.
According to the SEPA report, the air quality has been found to be extremely harmful to human health and the environment. The postmortem report of those who died in February 2020 has not yet been received. The cause of death will be known after receiving all the reports. The heirs of the deceased do not want any kind of legal action.
The High Court had sought a report on the Kemari incident from the police during the hearing related to Ali Muhammad Goth.
