Islamabad;  Part of the under-construction bridge collapsed on Bhara Kahu Bypass

Islamabad: Graders of an under-construction bridge collapsed on the Bhara Kahu Bypass in the federal capital, but no casualties were reported.

According to the Islamabad Capital Police spokesperson, traffic officials are present to maintain the flow of minor traffic while rescue teams have also reached.

According to CDA officials, five graders were placed on Bhara Kahu Bypass two days ago, the last grader fell during launching which is being investigated. The cause of the grader collapse will be determined.

In a conversation with Express News, Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon said that the grader fell while being held by a crane on the bridge, but it is not known whether the grader fell and broke.

Chairman CDA Captain Retired Nurul Amin said that an investigation committee has been formed under the leadership of Member Engineering, from which a report has been sought within 24 hours. While installing the last grader, it became unbalanced and the other four also fell.

Capt Retd Nurul Amin further said that the report of the earlier incident has been received and the first incident was a result of traffic management error.

Chairman CDA said that in the latest incident, there was an instruction to install graders by stopping traffic, there was no loss of life due to the installation of graders by stopping traffic, action will be taken against the officials of the traffic police on the first incident. The incident occurred due to a crane slip, an inquiry has been ordered.

According to the sources, the CDA officials had given an ultimatum to the CDA to complete the Bhara Kahu bridge project by March 23. They had asked for the time till April to complete the project, but it was decided to work on the project in a hurry. Once again the cause suffered.

It should be noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has to inaugurate it on March 23.
