New census, request for increase in minority seats in parliament

A petition was filed in the Supreme Court for a fresh census and an increase in seats for minorities in Parliament.

Citizen Albert David took the stand in the petition that since 2017 there has been an extraordinary difference between the urban and rural population, holding elections based on the current census will not be able to elect real representatives of the people.

The petition requested that the elections be stopped until the new census and the increase in the number of seats according to the population of the minorities, while the minorities should be given proportional seats in the Parliament as per the law.

Federal Government, Election Commission and Chief Census Commissioner have been made parties in the petition.
