Jirga on Barkhan incident, tribal elders' two-day ultimatum to the government

Quetta: After the dead bodies of a woman and two sons were found in Balochistan’s Barkhan area, the family members have been staging a dharna for the last two days in the red zone of Quetta and have presented six demands, while the tribal jirga has given a two-day ultimatum.

The family members allege that the deceased were killed by the provincial minister Abdul Rehman Katheran, while five members of the same family are also imprisoned in his prison. It should be noted that a video of the woman had surfaced on social media a few days ago, in which she was demanding her release by quoting the Holy Quran and saying that she and her children were imprisoned in a private prison in Kathran.

Later, the dead bodies of the woman and her two sons were recovered from the well, after which the people of the Murree tribe protested and staged a sit-in after reaching Quetta with the dead bodies.

The echo of the Barkhan incident remained in the Provincial Assembly, Senate as well and the members demanded strict action against the elements involved including a transparent investigation of the incident. The Chief Minister of Balochistan formed a committee to investigate the incident, while the police also raided the house of Abdul Rehman Katheran in Quetta last night, but no one was recovered and no arrest was made.

Balochistan Bar Council boycotted court proceedings over Barkhan incident. President of Quetta Bar Association Qari Rehmatullah said that the Barkhan incident is sad, it is the responsibility of the government to provide security to the people, they will not back down from their efforts to provide justice to the oppressed people.

On the other hand, tribal elders held a jirga in Quetta on the Barkhan incident, which was presided over by Senator Prince Agha Umar Ahmadzai, the brother of Khan of Kalat, while chiefs of Pashtun and Baloch tribes participated in the jirga.

The elders participating in the Jirga condemned the incident in strong terms and asked the government to accept all the demands of all the participants of the sit-in.

Prince Agha Umar Ahmadzai appealed that all the tribes of Balochistan come together in Quetta and become part of the protest of the dharna participants.

On the second day of sit-in, the relatives presented 6 demands

The family members of the woman killed in the Barkhan incident and her two sons in the Red Zone protested on the second day and presented six points. The relatives demanded that a case should be registered against Sardar Abdur Rehman Kethran, the other five missing persons should be recovered.

The relatives demanded that a judicial commission be formed under the chairmanship of the judge of the Balochistan High Court, the sit-in will continue until the demands are not accepted.

Meanwhile, MPA Malik Sikander, Zabad Riki, Shakeela Naveed Dehwar, Ahmed Nawaz and Malik Naseer Shahwani came to the sit-in where the members of the assembly condemned the Barkhan incident and expressed sympathy with the bereaved and assured their full support. He demanded that those involved should be punished.

Demonstration in Dera Bugti also

Against the Barkhan incident, protests were held in Tehsil Sui and Pir Koh of Dera Bugti, the protesters raised slogans against Sardar Abdul Rahman Khetran and demanded immediate recovery of the other five children of Khan Muhammad Marri.

Statement of Balochistan Police

Balochistan Police says that the IG Police is investigating the Barkhan incident under his supervision, steps have been taken to recover the remaining members of the family, better progress is expected soon, special teams of the police have arrested the abductees based on secret information. Have left for recovery.

The police spokesman said that last night, the police of Quetta and Barkhan, the residence of Sardar Abdul Rahman Khetran, conducted a comprehensive search. No discount will be given on account of status, the provincial government has already formed a JIT to investigate the matter, strict action will be taken against the officers guilty of negligence and carelessness.
