New Orleans: For years, researchers have been examining the negative effects of salt on human health, and recently another alarming new discovery has come to light.
Research conducted by Professor Rui Teng and colleagues at Tulane University in New Orleans, USA, has found a link between high-salt foods and chronic kidney disease.
The research used data from adults aged 37 to 73 from the UK who were part of a large research project called the UK Biobank.
A study published in the journal ‘JAMA Network Open’ found that people who consumed more salt in their diet had a significantly increased risk of chronic kidney disease.
Chronic kidney disease is a condition in which the kidneys gradually stop working over time.
Kidneys play a key role in filtering waste from the blood and maintaining our body’s fluid and mineral balance. If they become defective, it causes serious problems for the body.
