Islamabad: Accused Shahnawaz Amir, who was arrested on the charge of Sara Inam’s murder, was acquitted in the Kalashnikov recovery case.

The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad acquitted Shahnawaz Amir, the main accused in the Sara Inam murder case, giving benefit of doubt in the Kalashnikov recovery case.

Judicial Magistrate Umar Shabir issued a written decision and ordered the release of the accused in the Kalashnikov recovery case.

It has been said in the judgment that the prosecution failed miserably to prove the charge against the accused. More than one doubt was found in the evidence of the prosecution. It is the right of the accused to get the benefit of doubt.

According to the verdict, Constable Tariq, who sent the complaint of the case to the police station, was not presented in the court as a witness. Failure to produce such an important witness has consequences under the Evidence Act. Not making a private person a witness is another big mistake.

During the investigation in the Sara Inam case, the police registered a case against Shahnawaz Amir on the charge of recovering an unarmed Kalashnikov. The verdict in the Sara Inam murder case will be pronounced after the final arguments are completed.
