Karachi: The Sindh High Court ordered the demolition of the New Gharibabad Goth built on the land of the Teachers Society in Scheme 33.
In front of a two-member bench headed by Justice Nadeem Akhtar, a petition was heard against the construction of Gothabad on the land of Karachi College Teachers Society in Gulzar Hijri Scheme 33.
The court ordered the demolition of New Gharibabad Goth located on the society’s land and directed SSP East, DC East and others to demolish the Goth and submit a report.
The petitioner’s counsel submitted that the government had allotted land to Karachi College Teachers Society in Gulzar Hijri Scheme 33 in 1983, on which the government illegally made New Gharibabad Goth in 2012. An order should be given to terminate the possession of the society’s land and hand it over to the original owners.
SSP East Irfan Bahadur said that a nationwide campaign is underway to evict foreigners. We are all engaged in this campaign, the period for the operation should be extended.
The court remarked that we should extend the time if we empty even an inch but come and submit the report in one month. Why has the land of the society not been vacated so far?
DC East said that 40 acres of land has to be vacated, the area will have to be cordoned off and an operation will have to be carried out. People are settled, there are families and children too. Section 144 will have to be imposed before the siege, for which the Sindh Home Department has been approached.
Justice Nadeem Akhtar remarked that do not tell us that a letter has been written to so-and-so and will write a letter to so-and-so. All of you have to comply with the order of the court.
The DC East pleaded that heavy machinery would be required to demolish the house, so the KMC should be ordered to cooperate.
