Lahore: The High Court ordered the sealing of polluting factors on a petition filed for smog remediation.
Justice Shahid Karim declared that the factories which are emitting black smoke should be sealed unless they give an affidavit, then they will not be de-sealed. Give an affidavit stating that if the violation occurs again, the factory will be demolished.
Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court heard the petitions of Haroon Farooq and others to remedy the smog, in which Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Legal Director Abdul Razzaq and other officers appeared before the court. Justice Shahid Karim remarked that now it seems we are going on the right path. However, PDMA is sleeping, we wake them up.
The court said that if a vehicle is causing smog, take pictures of it. From next year we will have to take big steps from the beginning. These two months are very important.
Commissioner Lahore informed the court that he will take indiscriminate action against vehicles emitting smoke. We have also instructed the traffic police to stop smog emitting vehicles, we have taken a lot of steps for the trend of cycling. We have talked to Tipa about building a track for cycling, will try to get discounts on hotels for cyclists. Commissioner Lahore said that we will now advertise in newspapers that cutting trees is a crime.
Later, the court adjourned the next hearing of the case till November 7.
