Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf General Secretary Asad Umar apologized to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the contempt of court case.
The ECP heard the contempt of court case against PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Secretary General Umar and Vice President Fawad Chaudhry. Asad Umar said that there is nothing regarding ECP that should be seen as an insult. I am sorry if the Election Commission still feels insulted. I leave myself at his mercy.” The PTI leader also submitted a reply to the show cause notice.
In his reply, Asad Umar said that the notice sent by the Secretary Election Commission was illegal because the show cause notice can be sent by the Election Commission and not by the Election Commission.
The PTI leader said that he did not say anything that could be considered insulting, adding, “I neither scandalized the ECP nor tried to defame it, only legitimate criticism.” and have made appropriate comments, so my statement should be accepted and the contempt proceedings should be terminated.
Asad Umar said that the party responded to the ECP’s actions because the ECP gave a malicious unilateral report in the prohibited funding case. He said the commission declared it a foreign funded party and referred the case to the government for action. ECP is only hearing cases against PTI as PTI cases are given short dates and other cases are given long dates.
PTI General Secretary said that only PTI’s scrutiny was completed in the funding case as well. Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry’s lawyer Faisal Chaudhry said that elections are being held in their constituency. Fawad and I are both contesting elections. Therefore, it would be appropriate to give the date after the election.
Faisal Chaudhry said that an effort will be made to appear at the next hearing and give arguments on the objections. The Election Commission adjourned the hearing of the case till February 28.
