Reports of IMF deal and arms sales to Ukraine termed "baseless".

Islamabad: The Foreign Office dismissed media reports on Pakistan’s alleged sale of arms to Ukraine to secure a bailout package from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

A report published by The Intercept claimed that Islamabad was allegedly engaged in a ‘secret’ arms sale to the US as part of a bailout deal with the IMF. .

The report claimed that “the sale of these weapons was intended to supply the Ukrainian military, thereby forcing Pakistan to become a party to the Russia-Ukraine conflict”.

Responding to the media’s questions regarding the matter, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch dismissed the news as “baseless and fabricated”.

He further said that “IMF standby arrangement for Pakistan was successfully negotiated between Pakistan and IMF to implement difficult but necessary economic reforms, it is not appropriate to give any other color to these negotiations.”

Zahra Baloch said that Pakistan adheres to the policy of neutrality in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia and in this context no arms and ammunition are being provided to them.
