The river belt of Lodhran is on the verge of flooding after submerging settlements in Arifwala, Bahawalnagar and Chishtian in different areas of Punjab.
40 villages and hundreds of villages are expected to be affected due to rapid increase in water flow at Melsi Siphon in Sutlej River.
As many as 24 schools were closed due to the floods, while the education department has extended the holidays indefinitely in the flood-affected areas.
Meanwhile, people from many settlements of the river belt in Bahawalpur shifted to safer places.
At Borewala also, several small dams have broken due to the rise in water level.
