World's first vaccine approved for use on bees

In the US, the world’s first vaccine was approved for use on bees.

According to US medical officials, this vaccine could be a major breakthrough in bee conservation.

The United States has seen an annual decline in honey bee colonies since 2006.

The vaccine is designed to prevent deaths from American foulbrood disease, in which bacteria attack bee larvae and weaken their colonies.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture this week approved a conditional license for the vaccine, which produces an inactivated version of the bacteria in the queen bee’s royal jelly feed, which gives the larvae immunity.

Bees play an important role in many aspects of the ecosystem.
