Wandering is a sign of high intelligence, research

A new study has found that wandering is one of the positive, not negative, signs of mental health.

A study by the University of Toronto claims that memory strength is ‘overrated’ and concludes that getting lost or forgetting things can be beneficial to your intelligence.

Professor Blake Richland, one of the publishers of the study, said:

“It’s important that the brain forgets irrelevant (unnecessary) details and instead focuses on things that actually help make decisions. We know that exercise increases the number of neurons in the ‘hippocampus’ part of the brain (the part that stores memory), but these are exactly the details that are not relevant or essential information to your life, nor can they prevent you from making good decisions.”

Professor Richards and Paul Frankland, involved in the research, have proposed on the habit of forgetting that ‘memory’ should allow valuable information to be retained and other unimportant things to be forgotten, a habit that can be used to improve decision-making ability.

All of the researchers involved in the study also agreed that forgetting is a positive process, making room for important things in the mind and helping important information stay together as a memory.
