The German parliament today approved a new immigration law to attract foreign talent to Germany.
388 lawmakers voted in favor of the new law while 234 voted against it.
The law establishes a points-based system that will evaluate candidates coming to Germany based on their educational qualifications, age and language proficiency.
At the beginning of this year, the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry said that due to the lack of skilled people, more than half of the country’s companies are facing difficulties in filling vacant positions.
According to the association, there is a shortage of 53% of staff in 22,000 companies.
