Maulana Abdul Aziz of Lal Masjid, who opened fire on the police in Islamabad along with four other persons, has been booked on charges of terrorism.
The SHO at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police station registered a case against Maulana Abdul Aziz and 4 others.
The FIR includes six sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including Section 324 (attempt to murder) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, along with Section 7 (punishment for acts of terrorism) and XI E.
Officials confirmed that a CTD team reportedly reached Lal Masjid to seek clarification on Maulana Abdul Aziz Lal Masjid’s return as Peshwa and attempts to take over the former children’s library.
According to the FIR, the team spotted a “suspicious” vehicle in the area and was signaled to stop. However, three persons, two of whom were carrying sub-machine guns (SMGs), opened fire on the police.
According to the police, the three persons Murad Khan, Abrar Ahmed and Sarfraz Hussain were arrested while Maulana Abdul Aziz and another person managed to escape. In the FIR, he has been identified as the driver of Manzoor. Apart from Abdul Aziz, a case has been registered against 4 people.
